Without green hydrogen and stronger 2030 targets, gov Energy Roadmap puts climate at risk

Leader of the Australian Greens, Adam Bandt MP, has warned that without meaningful short-term targets, a plan to phase out coal & gas and a focus on green hydrogen, the energy roadmap will be nothing better than an attempt to greenwash the Coalition's existing climate inaction.

"We’re driving towards a climate cliff and Angus Taylor is pressing the accelerator," Mr Bandt said.

ARENA/CEFC success continues to infuriate the fossils - Greens plan to block Liberals latest plan of attack

The Australian Greens have vowed to block any moves to turn the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and Clean Energy Finance Corporation into fossil fuel slush funds.

ARENA and the CEFC, created via the Greens-Labor Agreement in 2010, have delivered 543 clean energy projects, driven down costs of large scale solar and facilitated $27.3 billion of job-creating investment, earning a profit for government of $1.7 billion from investing in renewables.

The Greens are calling on the Labor Leader in the Senate, Penny Wong to declare where her party stands on the proposed Nuclear Waste Dump in SA, after a clear division within the Labor Party was revealed in a Senate Inquiry Report released late yesterday.

NSW Labor Senator Jenny McAllister delivered a dissenting report, independent of her Labor colleagues including SA Senator Alex Gallacher who supports the majority report that SA should be a dumping ground for nuclear waste.

Don’t dump on SA: major flaws in bill for proposed nuclear waste dump

The Greens strongly oppose the bill to establish a nuclear waste dump at Kimba.

Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, Greens Senator for South Australia said:

“The Senate Inquiry showed that this is a highly flawed bill. There are deep concerns that this bill blatantly seeks to prevent any right to judicial review of this process and sets in stone Kimba as the dump site against strong community opposition.”

Greens will campaign to defeat gaslighting of Australia’s Green Bank

Adam Bandt 1 Sep 2020

Australian Greens Leader Adam Bandt says his party will fight to defeat the government's attempt to amend the Clean Energy Finance Corporation Act to force the green bank to fund gas corporations.

The government needs the support of Senate crossbenchers to pass the Clean Energy Finance Corporation Amendment (Grid Reliability Fund) Bill 2020 currently before the House of Representatives.

"The government is trying to gaslight the Parliament with its attempt to redefine toxic methane gas as clean energy," Mr Bandt said.

Green recovery needed to lock in emissions reductions

Leader of the Australian Greens Adam Bandt MP has said figures showing an 18% drop in emissions as a result of the coronavirus are doomed to be short-lived under the Liberals' gas led recovery, urging the government to 'lock in' the drop by phasing out coal & gas and massively funding renewables.

"It's pathetic that the Liberals needed an economy-wrecking pandemic to see a drop in emissions," Adam Bandt MP said.

"If Tony Abbott hadn't torn up the Greens-secured carbon price in 2014, we'd have this kind of drop permanently  without having to shut down the economy.

Orwellian Gov bill defines gas as clean energy, war as peace and freedom as slavery

Adam Bandt 27 Aug 2020

Leader of the Australian Greens, Adam Bandt, has today slammed as Orwellian a new Bill from the Morrison government that redefines ‘low emissions technology' to include gas in the Clean Energy Finance Corporation Act. The move would enable gas corporations to access billions of dollars of support meant for renewables.

“Gas is as dirty as coal,” said Mr Bandt

"Bought by the gas industry, the Liberals are trying to legislate away a scientific truth. This is Orwellian.

South Australian Labor members have dumped on their home state

South Australian Labor members have dumped on their home state today, backing the legislation to build a nuclear waste dump at Kimba on SA’s Eyre Peninsula, the Greens say.

SA Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said:

“Labor has today dumped on South Australia and backed a site selection process for a nuclear waste dump that has been dodgy from the start.

“South Australians have already said no to nuclear. Today, every South Aussie should be asking why their elected representatives from the major parties have refused to listen to them.
