Zachary Rolfe, the Northern Territory policeman who shot and killed 19-year-old Warlpiri man Kumanjayi Walker, has been found not guilty of murder, manslaughter and committing a violent act causing death.

I am here this evening to read an extract from a personal statement written this week by 3 of the 7 Whadjuk people involved in the consultation that led to the bridge’s section 18 approval.

With COVID cases on the rise, The Greens today have back calls from prominent public health experts urging the McGowan Government to both house and address the low rates of vaccination among rough sleepers and chronically homeless people in Perth.

It comes as leading public health experts, including Professor Fiona Stanley, have issued an open letter to Premier McGowan urging him to “activate (a) plan immediately, in collaboration with First Nations organisations, to ensure that all the have the basic security and protection of safe shelter.” 

With First Nations vaccination rates lagging across Western Australia and the state’s  largest remote First Nations community now in lockdown, The Greens have today again called on the WA Government to lift vaccination rates for First Nations people.

The Age has revealed that a man in a propaganda video depicting three masked Neo-Nazi’s is a former Young Liberals Office Holder. In the video: the men burn an Aboriginal flag, perform sieg heil salutes and recite a white supremacist manifesto in front of a sign naming and threatening Senator Lidia Thorpe.

The Greens have called for an immediate investigation following alleged human rights violations in a children’s prison today, while again calling on the WA Government to raise the age of criminal responsibility to at least 14 years.

After two years of consultation with First Nations leaders, the federal Government has released the Final Report on a proposal for an Indigenous Voice to parliament.

When First Nations people fight for Country, against dirty mining companies or corporate landowners with deep pockets, they’re often locked in a long, expensive and ultimately unfair legal battle.

The Greens have a plan to balance the scales, by making billionaires and big polluters pay their fair share of tax. Through a ‘billionaires tax’ and a ‘corporate super-profits tax,’ we can put resources towards an environmental and cultural heritage legal defence fund.
