Bandt announces new portfolios, elevates dental health

Leader of The Australian Greens Adam Bandt MP has announced new portfolio allocations, including the creation of a new portfolio of Dental Health, which will focus on the Greens' long-held goal of ensuring that all Australians have fully funded dental care provided through Medicare.

"I'm excited to announce our new portfolio allocations, especially the creation of a Dental Health portfolio, which will be held by Sen. Sarah Hanson-Young," Bandt said.

Di Natale Resigns Parliamentary Leadership

Australian Greens Senator for Victoria Dr Richard Di Natale has resigned as Parliamentary Leader of the Australian Greens.

“It has been a privilege and an honour to lead the Australian Greens in the federal parliament for the past four years, fighting every day for the values that millions of Australians care so deeply about,” Di Natale said.

“But leading a political party is a tough, demanding job so after nearly a decade as a Senator - half that time as leader - I have decided to step aside as Parliamentary Leader of the Australian Greens.”

Statement on the Australian Greens MPs Party Room Meeting

Today the Australian Greens Party Room met and re-affirmed the positions of our leadership team.

Following a customary spill of the leadership positions, the roles of Leader, Co-Deputy Leader and Whip have all been returned without challenge. The rotating position of Party Room Chair has moved from Adam Bandt MP to Sen. Janet Rice.

Greens announce Julian Burnside as candidate for Kooyong

Julian Burnside AO QC will stand for the Greens in the electorate of Kooyong at the upcoming federal election, said Leader of the Australian Greens Dr Richard Di Natale.

"I’m so excited to be able to announce that Julian Burnside is running as a candidate for the Greens in Kooyong. It’s going to be a tough contest, no question, but we’re in with a real shot now," said Senator Di Natale.

"This Government has been an absolute disaster and no one personifies their absolute failure to take meaningful action on climate change and refugees like Josh Frydenberg.

Statement from Richard Di Natale on Greens NSW Review

Last night the Australian Greens National Council resolved to work with the NSW Greens to help it undertake a formal and independent review of Greens NSW structures and processes, including complaints processes and the Greens NSW Constitution. It also reaffirmed, that in the best interests of the party, Jeremy Buckingham should stand aside from the Upper House ticket at the next election.

Australian Greens Co-Convenors statement on Greens NSW Review

The Australian Greens have reached a constructive, consensus agreement that will see it partner with the NSW Greens to undertake a formal and independent review of Greens NSW structures and processes including complaints processes and the Greens NSW Constitution.

This resolution will help to ensure the integrity of the NSW review and facilitate healing within the NSW Party Room.   

The review process is consistent with Greens founding principles and constitution, by empowering both MPs and grassroots members of the NSW Greens to be actively involved in the process.
