Australian Greens announce portfolios for 47th Parliament

The Australian Greens Leader, Adam Bandt, has announced the party’s updated portfolio allocation for the upcoming 47th Parliament, ahead of the first sittings in July.

Presented to yesterday evening’s Party Room, the new allocation gives newly elected MPs and Senators the power to progress the issues they were elected to advance, while recognising the years of experience behind the Greens existing portfolio holders.

Whish-Wilson gains highest Greens Senate result across Australia

Today it is finally official: lutruwita/Tasmania’s federal election preferences have been formally distributed and Greens Senator Peter Whish-Wilson has been re-elected to the Senate in third position.

Greens Leader Adam Bandt will address the Greens official national campaign launch in the Brisbane seat of Griffith today, which the party is hoping to win, and outline the Greens ‘balance of power’ shortlist for negotiations in the likely event of a minority Parliament.

The Greens have said they will put on the table a pared-back version of their comprehensive platform - a 7 point balance of power shortlist - comprised of no new coal and gas mines, cost of living measures like dental into Medicare, and action for First Nations’ people.

Greens pledge an Active Transport Network for nipaluna/Hobart

Nipaluna/Hobart will be at the centre of an exciting national trial to roll out more bicycle infrastructure under an $18m fully-costed plan launched by the Greens today. 

In the last power sharing arrangement with the Gillard Labor Government the Greens negotiated an historic $80m national bike path fund. This included a “Bike Blackspot” app and campaign where cyclists can log blackspot in existing bike paths, which generates an email and report to the Minister for Infrastructure, and contributes to a real time map of all Blackspots in Australia.

Greens to preference Labor to kick Morrison out

Greens Leader Adam Bandt announced today that the Greens would preference Labor ahead of the Liberals across the country. Greens Local and State branches finalised preference recommendations for how-to-vote cards this week ahead of early voting polling booths opening on May 9.

Greens how-to-vote cards, that recommend preferences, will recommend a preference for Labor above the Coalition and place other right wing parties last. The Greens will also recommend a preference for climate independents in key Liberal held seats.

Greens warn PM not to greenwash hydrogen hub

The Greens have called on the PM to rule out the use of fossil fuels in producing hydrogen at the proposed Bell Bay Hydrogen hub. 

Clean hydrogen is not green hydrogen. Clean hydrogen uses fossil fuel electricity with a series of questionable offsets along the supply chain.
