Nuclear subs announcement puts target on SA’s back

The SA Greens will take the fight against nuclear submarines to be built in Adelaide to Canberra, labelling it a dangerous deal that puts a target on the state’s back. 

Greens Senator for SA Sarah Hanson-Young said:

"The Prime Minister has signed a disastrous and dangerous deal for Australia.

"Many Australians have woken up to this news this morning and are feeling scared and worried about what the consequences will be. 

"This is a serious escalation in our military policy and spending. It puts a target on the back of Adelaide and SA.

Ban the Bomb: 75th anniversary of Trinity atomic test

Australian Greens Spokesperson for Peace and Nuclear Disarmament Senator Jordon Steele-John has called for an acknowledgment of the role Australian Government's have played in the nuclear chain and a commitment to ban nuclear weapons to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Trinity Nuclear Test.

Since 16 July, 1945, there have been 2,121 nuclear tests around the world. 21 of these tests have taken place on Australian soil.

Senator Steele-John said these tests had a devastating impact on people and planet, particularly First Nations Peoples and their country.

Libs fail the environment again on secretive uranium decision

The Liberals have shown we can’t risk another term of them in Government, by approving a destructive uranium mine on the eve of an election being called, and trying to hide it.

 

“The Liberals are trashing the environment behind voters’ backs. They have tried to hide this destructive uranium mine decision from voters. They do not deserve another term of government,” Greens environment spokesperson Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

Hands off our environmental laws, Greens tell Mining lobby

The Liberal National Government must reject the advice of the self-serving Mining Lobby pushing for changes to the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, the Greens say.

 

“The Environment Minister must stand up for environmental protections, not fall to her mates in the mining industry,” Greens environment spokesperson Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.
