Infrastructure spending will help stop the housing bubble

Australian Greens Treasury spokesperson, Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, today responded to comments by the Reserve Bank Governor and the IMF regarding infrastructure and housing.

Senator Whish-Wilson said, “The RBA and the IMF have once again laid out the case for increasing government borrowing to invest in infrastructure.

“The Greens went to the last federal election with a detailed policy for a nation-building infrastructure program, that included restructuring infrastructure financing and a focus on transitioning our economy to become 100% renewable.

Estimates confirms that federal funding for Roe 8 in limbo

 

The Department of Infrastructure has today confirmed in senate estimates that Federal Government funding for Roe 8 will be withheld until stage one and two Project Proposal Reports are completed and assessed.

“Today the Federal Government has confirmed that for funding to be provided, both Project Proposal Reports for stages one and two of the project must be completed and assessed”, Senator Rachel Siewert said today.

National interest must come first in high speed rail conversation

The Australian Greens have welcomed a fresh discussion about high speed rail in light of the proposal from Consolidated Land and Rail Australia, but warn that it's crucial that the infrastructure is built in the nation's interests, not to suit the profits of private property developers.

"Federal and state governments need to lead this cross-generational project, not just respond to the private sector," said Greens spokesperson for transport, Senator Janet Rice.

Greens call for next step in Brisbane’s clean transport future – the Brisbane Subway

The Greens are calling on the old parties to commit before the election to Brisbane's clean transport future beyond the north-south Cross River Rail by progressing an east-west Brisbane Subway.

Greens Senator for Queensland, Larissa Waters, said Brisbane was expected to grow rapidly over the next 15 years and we needed to plan now for that growth with high-quality public transport.
